NEW STUDY SHEDS LIGHT ON SLOTS PLAYER HABITS

A new study conducted by Oregon State University assistant professor Sandy Chen revealed that the popular stereotype claiming that slots players are uneducated and poor gambling addicts is not true.

A new study conducted by Oregon State University assistant professor Sandy Chen has revealed that slots players can be divided into four major categories. None of these categories reinforces the stereotype that slot players are poor gambling addicts that are looking for a quick buck.

The first category of players is that of the so-called utilitarian players who just play slots for the sake of enjoyment. These players aren't necessarily interested in winning large sums of money; they mostly play because they enjoy the game or are bored of other conventional activities.

The second category of slot players is the group of excitement gamblers who avoid playing on progressive slot machines and slot machines that promise large payouts. This is because these players are playing for the thrill of winning something (regardless of amount) and large progressive slot machines are known to pay out very infrequently.

The third group is that of the multipurpose gamblers. These people mostly choose various themed slots or slots with a distinct storyline. Multipurpose gamblers are, however, also interested in cashing in large wins but the main reason they play is still for the sake of excitement.

The final group is that of the relaxation gamblers who similar to the first group never really care about the actual winnings. People belonging to this group are usually extremely well educated and never spend more than 25 cents or $1 per spin and usually enjoy playing together with friends or acquaintances.

The study has also revealed that the typical slots player is a female between 55 and 60 years of age who has a college education and is earning around $55,000 per year. This fact contradicts with the long-held believes that slot players are uneducated people and gambling addicts.

On a related note, a distinct study conducted by researches connected with the Amsterdam Institute of Addiction Research revealed that problem gambling is not something that people develop but rather something that people are born with.

The study claims that certain people are born with an addictive personality meaning that if they engage in gambling activities it's very likely that they will develop a gambling addiction. Most normal people, on the other hand, will never develop a gambling addiction (or any other addiction) in their lives.
